Cycle Bretagne

Tuesday 4th June Woke up to rain, rain and more rain! The heaviest we have had. A quick chat with the hotel reception allowed us to stay until 12:00 if we wanted to. So, a slow breakfast while we watched it sheeting down and it stayed that way until 10:45 and it cleared a bit. So off we went for our final ride, only for it to rain on us after 15 minutes.   It didn’t last for too long which was good as the legs were not push he pedals over too well (at least mine weren’t). We didn’t have far to go go today. About 21 to 25 km depending on the route we took. So as soon as we could we turned off his main road and left the car and wagon traffic to itself and stayed on country roads as much as possible, as we have for most of the trip so far.   We rode into the centre of Quimper for lunch and ended up eating a quiche under a shop awning as it started to rain again. Monday 3rd June I slept until 8:40 this morning and those of you that know me, know that it is late for me. We had a target of around 70 km and got going about 10:00, after a breakfast of bread, jam and crepes. It seems to have worked as it kept us going all morning.  After we stopped for lunch about 12, we decided to get off a relatively busy D road and try to get to the coastal roads and did we!!!! Going down a slight incline towards a beach a vista opened up before us that revealed a beach stretching into the distance, it looked over 10 miles long (????) and took us the next couple of hours of cycling to ride the length of it. Gone were the grey clouds of yesterday and the big hills. We had sun, a nice breeze and really relaxed cycling, what a great last but one day to have! Tuesday 28th May Both too tired last night to write anything. Heads on pillows by 9:30 pm. Yesterday was a hard day wind in our faces for most it but the last 10 km. when it was on backs and the difference was wonderful. We misjudged shop opening for Monday’s and could not find anything for lunch until past 3 pm.   Today’s ride was just as windy and again in our faces for most of it bar the last 15 km. We rode for 66 km / 800 m yesterday and 71 km / 1010 m ascent today. However today was much brighter and no rain, but the wind was strong and chilly under clouds or in shade. As usual there was a final hill to get up to the hotel, this one is in the middle of Morlaix, it just happens to be at the bottom of a river estuary/valley where most others towns we climb up to the top of a hill and all the side roads go up he side of he valley. Seems a nice place tonight. We are the only guests and have a couple of rooms and use of a kitchen.    Tomorrow’s forecast is not good...

Having cycled from St Malo for eight days we managed to build in a rest day into this trip. This morning we took a small ferry boat from Brest to Le Feret on the Crozon peninsular and wiping out the best part of what would have been a long days cycle of over 100 kms. We did do some cycling but just enough to ensure our legs don’t forget there is still three days of cycling before we arrive at Quimper! Today the temperature is around 23c and bright and sunny. Tomorrow we are aiming for a place called Plogoff which should be around 80kms cycling. David
